The Role
As a Specialist Finance Support Analyst at Absa, you will work as part of an integrated run and build tribe in lower complexity environments to provide enterprise-wide application support across multiple stakeholder groups. This critical role involves maintaining and optimizing enterprise-grade applications, technical products, and services that support our extensive financial operations across Africa. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including infrastructure and architecture teams, Information Security teams, Tech Centres of Enablement, and various business stakeholders to ensure seamless application performance and support.
This position offers the opportunity to work within Absa's innovative technology environment where you'll be responsible for the full lifecycle management of financial applications. You'll be working with cutting-edge financial technology systems while contributing to the digital transformation of one of Africa's leading financial institutions. The role requires someone who can think critically and apply problem-solving skills to complex technical challenges while maintaining the high standards of reliability and security that our customers depend on.
What You'll Do
- Apply critical thinking, design thinking and problem-solving skills to solve technical problems on existing financial applications
- Implement configuration, optimization, upgrades, and maintenance activities including regular maintenance patches for enterprise-wide applications
- Provide efficient and effective support of applications including continued development, security patches, reliability, and disaster recovery procedures
- Schedule and oversee planned maintenance tasks such as backups and performance tuning for production IT services
- Maintain correct and current application documentation and ensure availability to application users
- Oversee application implementation, configuration, patches, upgrades and maintenance while ensuring application performance meets agreed SLAs and OLAs
- Coordinate and execute unplanned maintenance tasks and disaster recovery procedures for production IT services
- Manage applications throughout their lifecycle and assist in application-related aspects of designing, testing, operating and improving technology products and services
- Coordinate and communicate across Tribes and Squads to successfully complete application upgrades with minimal business impact
- Develop and maintain expertise in application functionality, user workflow, and business processes specific to financial operations
- Compile and maintain comprehensive inventory of applications and related technical details
- Act as liaison between business stakeholders, external solution providers, and IT stakeholders for application support requirements
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor of Commerce (B Com) degree or National Diploma in Finance
- 3-5 years of experience in financial accounting applications and systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel with demonstrated expertise in complex financial modeling and data analysis
- Strong understanding of application infrastructure including server, network, and security components
- Experience with application lifecycle management and enterprise-grade system support
- Knowledge of SLA and OLA management in production environments
- Understanding of DevOps principles and application support best practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Experience with financial systems integration and data management
Nice to Have
- Experience with Magic Orange financial applications
- Proficiency in SQL for database queries and data manipulation
- Knowledge of Power Query and advanced data transformation techniques
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related technical field
- Experience with vendor management and RFP processes
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements in financial services
