The Role
As a Senior Advisor Quantity Surveying at Eskom, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic quantity surveying support services throughout complex project lifecycles. This P16 position within the Programme Management Department of the Office of the General Executive offers an exceptional opportunity to work at the heart of South Africa's energy infrastructure development. You'll be based at Megawatt Park, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including project managers, engineers, procurement specialists, and contract administrators to ensure accurate project cost estimates and maintain rigorous budget control across major capital projects.
This senior advisory role requires you to work closely with various stakeholders across Eskom's extensive project portfolio, from power station construction and maintenance projects to transmission and distribution infrastructure developments. You'll provide professional guidance to individual quantity surveying employees while contributing to the strategic direction of cost management practices across the organization. The role demands a professional who can navigate the complexities of large-scale engineering projects while maintaining the highest standards of cost control and professional excellence.

What You'll Do
- Provide comprehensive cost advice and strategic planning support across all phases of major infrastructure projects from feasibility through to completion
- Develop and maintain accurate project cost estimates using advanced quantity surveying techniques and industry best practices
- Provide expert advisory support regarding contract documentation, ensuring compliance with New Engineering Contracts (NEC) standards and Eskom procedures
- Lead advisory support for tendering processes and contractual arrangements, optimizing value for money while mitigating project risks
- Deliver specialized advisory support for contract services throughout project implementation phases
- Mentor and coach quantity surveying employees, developing organizational capability and maintaining professional standards
- Implement earned value management (EVM) systems to monitor project performance and identify potential cost overruns
- Conduct contract price adjustment (CPA) calculations and ensure proper application of pricing principles
- Collaborate with project management teams to integrate cost management with planning and scheduling activities
- Prepare comprehensive cost reports and present findings to senior management and project stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Eskom policies, and professional standards
- Support the development and implementation of cost engineering best practices across the organization
What We're Looking For
- Honours Degree/BSc Degree in Quantity Surveying at NQF8 level with 480 credits from a recognized institution
- Professional Registration with the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) as a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS)
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in quantity surveying, contracts management, and cost management in the built environment
- Extensive knowledge of New Engineering Contracts (NEC) documentation and application in major projects
- Strong understanding of civil and electrical engineering principles within an engineering industry context
- Comprehensive knowledge of Eskom processes, procedures, and organizational structure
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and WinQS quantity surveying software
- Demonstrated expertise in contract price adjustment calculations and pricing principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities
Nice to Have
- Additional professional qualifications in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) or cost engineering
- Experience with renewable energy or power generation projects
- Knowledge of FIDIC contract conditions and international engineering contracts
- Experience with advanced project management software and cost control systems
- Previous experience in the electricity or utilities sector
- Postgraduate qualification in construction management or related field
