The Role
As a Senior Advisor Information System Support, you will join Eskom's Application Operations team within the Engineering Cluster, playing a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the technological backbone that powers South Africa's electricity infrastructure. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering professionals, IT specialists, and business stakeholders across Eskom's extensive network. Working from our Gauteng facilities including Megawatt Park and various Mpumalanga Power Stations, you'll be part of a dynamic environment where your technical expertise directly impacts millions of South Africans who depend on reliable electricity supply.
This role sits within our Group Information Technology (GIT) operating model, where you'll have the opportunity to work on complex, large-scale systems that manage everything from power generation to distribution networks. What You'll Do
- Provide specialist application support for mission-critical information systems used across Eskom's power generation and distribution operations
- Deliver comprehensive end-user support in line with established service offerings and GIT operating model standards
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple platforms and applications used in power station operations
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of information systems with operational processes
- Monitor system performance and proactively identify potential issues before they impact operations
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and knowledge base articles
- Participate in system upgrades, implementations, and maintenance activities during planned outages
- Provide training and knowledge transfer to junior team members and end users
- Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers for specialized technical support
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and business continuity initiatives
- Analyze system logs and performance metrics to optimize application performance
- Support compliance initiatives and ensure systems meet regulatory and industry standards
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in application support, preferably in large-scale industrial or utility environments
- Strong knowledge of enterprise information systems, databases, and network infrastructure
- Experience with power industry applications, SCADA systems, or industrial control systems highly preferred
- Proficiency in troubleshooting complex technical issues across multiple platforms and operating systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to work under pressure in critical situations
- Strong communication skills with ability to interact effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with incident management, change management, and ITIL frameworks
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices in industrial environments
- Willingness to work flexible hours and participate in on-call support rotation
Nice to Have
- Professional certifications in relevant technologies (Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, etc.)
- Experience with cloud technologies and digital transformation initiatives
- Knowledge of power generation, transmission, or distribution operations
- Project management certification or experience leading technical projects
- Experience with data analytics and reporting tools
- Understanding of regulatory compliance in the utilities sector
