The Role
As a Private Wealth Banker - Coverage at Absa, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional financial services to our most sophisticated clients. This position sits at the heart of our Private Wealth division, where you'll be responsible for building and maintaining professional business relationships across a diverse portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and families. You'll work closely with investment specialists, credit analysts, and relationship managers to provide comprehensive wealth management solutions that align with our clients' complex financial objectives.
This role requires a deep understanding of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) regulatory framework, as you'll be providing licensed financial advice to clients with substantial assets under management. You'll collaborate extensively with our investment team, credit department, and various product specialists to ensure clients receive holistic financial solutions. The position offers significant autonomy in managing client relationships while being supported by Absa's extensive resources and expertise across the African continent.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute comprehensive business development strategies to identify and acquire new high-net-worth clients within your coverage area
- Manage and nurture a portfolio of existing private wealth clients, ensuring their evolving financial needs are met with appropriate solutions
- Conduct detailed financial needs analyses and develop tailored wealth management strategies for individual clients and families
- Collaborate with credit specialists to structure and facilitate complex lending solutions, including property finance, asset-backed lending, and structured credit facilities
- Work closely with investment managers to optimize clients' asset allocation strategies and investment portfolios
- Provide ongoing financial advisory services in compliance with FAIS regulations, ensuring all advice is documented and meets regulatory standards
- Coordinate with estate planning specialists, tax advisors, and legal professionals to deliver comprehensive wealth structuring solutions
- Monitor market trends and economic developments to proactively advise clients on portfolio adjustments and investment opportunities
- Manage stakeholder relationships both internally and externally, including family offices, professional advisors, and institutional partners
- Resolve complex client queries and concerns promptly, escalating issues when necessary to ensure client satisfaction
- Maintain detailed client records and ensure all interactions comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies
- Participate in risk management activities, including client due diligence, ongoing monitoring, and reporting of suspicious activities
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Management Studies, Finance, or related field
- Valid FAIS certification with proven experience in providing financial advisory services
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in private banking, wealth management, or high-net-worth client coverage
- Strong understanding of investment products, including equities, bonds, alternative investments, and structured products
- Comprehensive knowledge of credit products and lending solutions for high-net-worth individuals
- Excellent relationship management skills with a proven track record of client acquisition and retention
- Deep understanding of South African regulatory environment, particularly FAIS, FICA, and banking regulations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency in financial modeling and investment analysis
Nice to Have
- Postgraduate qualification in Finance, Investment Management, or related field
- Professional certifications such as CFA, CFP, or similar investment-related qualifications
- Experience with international banking and cross-border wealth management solutions
- Knowledge of trust and estate planning structures
- Multilingual capabilities, particularly in African languages
- Previous experience in business development or sales within financial services
